We are a fast-growing, independent marijuana testing laboratory based in Boulder, Colorado. We are looking for a laboratory director to oversee all scientific operations in our Boulder laboratory. The job will include significant administrative and regulatory compliance duties.
Job Description
The Laboratory Director will:
• Oversee all scientific operations at the laboratory
• Oversee all scientific personnel, including hiring, training, professional development and discipline
• Ensure that all data generated by the scientific team meet quality control requirements
• Ensure regulatory compliance, including safety, environmental and documentation requirements
• Ensure an environment of open communication and continual improvement
• Identify and implement new technologies and methodologies to improve laboratory workflow and data quality
• Interact with clients to explain results and as part of marketing outreach
• Represent Rm3 Labs in regulatory and legislative meetings and hearings
• Represent Rm3 Labs in industry meetings and events
• Coordinate with operations and sales personnel to identify and address market opportunities and operational weaknesses
• Communicate regulatory and scientific developments to sales force and customers
• Ensure proper planning for growth and for technology upgrades and transitions
Qualifications & Experience:
• Must hold an MD or a PhD in a natural science and have three years' laboratory experience in toxicology, analytical chemistry or diagnostic testing, or a master's degree in a natural science and five years' such experience
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must have prior supervisory experience
• Must have strong leadership skills
• Extensive experience with HPLC, GC, GC/MS and/or LC/MS/MS instrumentation a strong plus
• Experience with ISO17025, CLIA or similar certification process a plus
• Familiarity with budgeting processes and basic financial concepts such as fixed vs. variable costs, equipment financing and return on investment a plus
• Must pass an extensive background security check and must be able to obtain a Colorado Department of Revenue - Marijuana Enforcement Division key license prior to or at the time of hire
• Must have excellent references
